Geography Final Project

Mrs. Lenz

Students will be using the 5 themes of geography—location, place, human environment interaction, movement, and regions to describe a country from which your family originates (not US).  Students will be creating a mobile containing information about that country.  Here is a timeline to help your child complete this project on time.

October 4—Pick a country from which your family comes.

October 5—Describe the location of that country including its latitude and longitude and what it’s near.

October 9—Describe the human and physical characteristics of that country—what makes it special—mountains, rivers, cultural differences

October 10—Describe human/environment interactions in that country.

October 11—Describe how ideas, people, and products move into and out of that country.

October 12—Describe what region this country is a part of—(eastern Europe) (east asia)  Tell what countries border your country.  What human and physical characteristics of that region.

October 13—Find or create 3 maps—1 political, 1 elevation, 1 climate of your country

October 16–Mobile needs to be completed and hung up.

Falcon of the Month

Posted by merrylenz on 25th September 2006

Each month the Rotary Club of Columbiaville recognizes one student from the fifth grade for good citizenship.  This month Mitchell McPherson was recognized for his community service work outside of school as well as his positive leadership quality in the classroom.  He has been invited to September 26th’s Rotary Club meeting where he will talk about the reasons he was chosen and where his parents can share how they feel about their role in leading him to this point.  Mitchell will receive a framed certificate as well as a basket of goodies.  An article will be placed in the Outlook.

Congratulations Mitchell!!!

A Visit from Some Feathered Friends

Posted by merrylenz on 25th September 2006

Paige Boone and her mother, Sonya, brought in their pet African Grey parrots. It was a great opportunity for the students to learn about animal rescue organizations such as the one to which the Boone family belongs. These previously abused bird now live a happy life with the Boone’s. You can tell that a lot of love and care is being given to them.

I just found out that our principal, Mr. Pepera, is resigning as of September 29th.  We’re losing both of our experienced secretaries, Roxy and Brenda, as well.  If you are concerned about the sudden changes in our building and its affects on the staff and students, please come to tonight’s board meeting at the High School Library at 7 p.m.  If you cannot make it tonight, please check out the schedule of meetings on the Lakeville web page and find a night you can come and express your concerns.

Thank you,
