Mr. Tibbits is a member of our community who is trying to help preserve our natural resources. His land has been set aside so that no one can build houses or change it from its natural state. He has planted thousands of trees and many wild animals use the preserve as their home.
A recent project of Mr. Tibbits is to involve school children with the nature preserve. He has invited us to visit the preserve to learn more about nature. We are planning on taking advantage of this offer this fall and will need parent volunteers to break the students into small groups to explore different aspects of the nature preserve.
One of the big additions to the nature preserve is the introduction of two trumpeter swans. These birds are endangered and it is a real honor for us to get the first pair of trumpeter swans in Southeastern Michigan. The male had been shot and cannot fly. The female has had her wings clipped. Both will be wintering here at the preserve. We hope in the spring to have some baby cygnets.

Each month the Rotary Club of Columbiaville recognizes one student from the fifth grade for good citizenship. This month Mitchell McPherson was recognized for his community service work outside of school as well as his positive leadership quality in the classroom. He has been invited to September 26th’s Rotary Club meeting where he will talk about the reasons he was chosen and where his parents can share how they feel about their role in leading him to this point. Mitchell will receive a framed certificate as well as a basket of goodies. An article will be placed in the Outlook.
Congratulations Mitchell!!!

Paige Boone and her mother, Sonya, brought in their pet African Grey parrots. It was a great opportunity for the students to learn about animal rescue organizations such as the one to which the Boone family belongs. These previously abused bird now live a happy life with the Boone’s. You can tell that a lot of love and care is being given to them.
